JiLL ANNE DESIGNS

About the artist
Jill is a collector of handmade mugs, devoted chai tea drinker, crazy about polka dots, finds peaceful joy in organizing, and loves making sure her dog is living his best life. Undeniably an artsy fartsy girl since she was young, diving into the world of creativity at the local art center in Des Moines, Iowa. She got hooked on ceramics and chased her passion all the way to a BFA at Iowa State University. The mountains started calling her name right after graduation, so she packed up her gear and headed west to Fort Collins, Colorado, where she's been whipping up artistic wonders from her home studio since 2003.

Over the years she has created countless pieces of functional pottery and thousands of fused glass earrings. For the past decade, she’s had a blast focusing on her wood burned art. Making colorful, little wood mountains and intricate mandala designs that are bursting with Colorado charm. Jill starts with a blank piece of wood and a trusty compass to draw out the first circle. Creating the mandala design gives her a sense of calm amidst the chaos of everyday life. The repetitive patterns evolve naturally with one layer at a time being drawn in pencil until it feels just right. Next, the pencil marks are finalized with a wood burning tool while extra polka dots are added to each piece. Bright colors are hand-painted within the wood burned lines and it’s finished with a protective clear coat. You can collect reproductions of the original pieces as art prints, magnets, stickers and other fun goodies.
